Media
Uiterlijk
In the Media section, you can add all the media you want to use on your website.
There are several ways to add items:
- Upload individual files to a specific folder
- Upload a ZIP file containing multiple files to a specific folder
- Upload a set of files or folders using your web host's admin tool
Folder Structure
It’s a good practice to maintain a clear folder structure; this makes website management more organized and prevents unnecessary clutter.
For example:
| main | subfolder | sub in sub | explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media | |||
| web design | everything related to the general layout of your website | ||
| portfolio | this folder contains only subfolders | ||
| album selections | photos on the portfolio page, as album selections (links to albums) | ||
| portraits | all portrait photography photos | ||
| street photography | all street photography photos | ||
| slider | |||
| slider series 1 | all photos for slider series 1 | ||
| slider series 2 | all photos for slider series 2 |
This way, you can also update the photos for the sliders in a clear and organized manner.
File Size of Photos and Videos
Files are often uploaded in sizes that are too large, which unnecessarily slows down the website. Think in advance about how you want to display certain media and in what format. Avoid using unnecessarily large file sizes. It can make a huge difference in performance.
So it's a good approach to use custom sizes, calculated for display on a desktop:
- Limit the length of the longest side to, for example, 1,000 pixels
- Thumbnails for album selections can be even smaller: the length of the longest side should not exceed 300 pixels
- The same applies to logos: don't make them larger than necessary
